Hello, I‘m Dominic!
I am waiting for you here on Zanzibar to explore Indian ocean with us.
I am dive instructor of PADI and SSI.
One day in 2015 I came to Zanzibar for the vacation and tried my first dive. And I felt in love with the ocean.
What are the reasons for diving on the North of Zanzibar?
Hotels and apartments for every taste and colour
Only 1 hour to Mnemba Island with amazing views and interesting underwater world
25 minutes to Tumbatu
island to meet seahorses and beautiful coral reefs
The smallest tides on the island
20 minutes to local Nungwi reefs with a lot of turtles, stingreys, all types of scorpion fishes, unique frog fishes and other interesting animals
Dive sites
This private owned island is surrounded by a large circular reef. In the clear turquoise water a great diversity of marine life can be found includes: bottlenose dolphins, green turtles lie eggs on its white sand beaches. From July to September, humpback whales cruise the water near Mnemba island.
Mnemba
Tumbatu Island is the third largest island of Zanzibar. People come here for unity with wildlife and deserted beaches. Well, we come here to see the huge seahorses and turtles.
Tumbatu
Just near the Nungwi beach you can find very nice and interesting reef with more then 20 sites for diving. Here you can see a large number of scorpion fish, turtles and other inhabitants of the Indian Ocean, make a drift dive and enjoy the variety of colorful corals.
Local site
WATTABOMMI
Depth: 6 – 40m
Beautiful landscape dive with patches of hard and soft corals spread out on a sandy slope.
Let the current carry you over the large plate corals, that are a home to a great diversity of fish species
while diving/snorkeling you can often find large schools of fish, turtles and pelagic fish like reef sharks.
This is an amazing dive site for both divers and beginners.
KICHWANI
Depth: 6 – 40m
A steep slope and wall with mostly soft coral, drifting slowly along the wall
you will be amazed by the great diversity of clownfish defending their anemone homes
trumpet fish hovering near the coral and odd shaped swimmers like the batfish and
boxfish can be seen all around in some lucky day you will run in to a group of dolphins passing by.
MWANA WA MWANA
Depth: 2 – 15m
Just north of Tumbatu Island (on the west coast of Zanzibar) lies the small Island Mwana Wa Mwana, with a distinguished square light house on its shores.
Underwater you find a field of coral bommies, with an amazing diversity in soft corals.
Here, lots of fish and other life take shelter; amazing nudibranchs, ribbon eels, sharp nosed stingrays, high chances of seeing the green turtles.
The highlight of this reef is its massive seahorses that are only found here. A good eye is needed to find the well camouflaged frog fish, which look like a piece of sponge rather than a fish.
TUMBATU
Depth: 2 – 15m
On the west coast of Zanzibar lies Tumbatu Island. The coral landscape at this place, with its walls, overhangs and outcrops, is absolutely stunning.
When looking up from deeper waters, you can find yourself speechless as you see the sun illuminating this weird underwater landscape.
The rocks are covered with beautiful (mainly soft) corals where many small critters have their home. Try not to be amazed by the colorful nudibranchs!
Also keep an eye out for the leaf fish, pretending to be a leaf swaying in the current. Once in a while, look into the blue, as you may find turtles here too.
SHANE'S REEFE
Depth: 12 – 16m
Amazing diversity of macro life, spread over three groups of coral bommies.
Leaf fish (often in small groups) are seen here often, as are frogfish and many species of nudibranchs.
Shane’s is a very good place for the more rare marine animals, such as the Mauritius scorpion fish, sea horses, different species of rhinopias, robust ghost pipefish, name it but a few.
Photographers and macro life lovers should not miss this site!
NANKIVELL
Depth: 12 – 16m
Another reef that lies in the open sea, also a great place for big shoals of fish, Nankivell harbors a large area of corals with a lot of fish varieties.
The squid family is well represented here, with a big chance of seeing cuttlefish, octopus and squid.
When you feel lucky, at this place you can sometimes even find reef sharks.
Just make sure to go at the right time, as Nankivell can only be dived at specific tides.
HUNGA
Depth: 9 – 16m
Several pinnacles with mainly hard coral in the open sea. Sometimes strong currents can be found at this site, thus it is best dived at slack tides.
As the reef is in open sea, it attracts different life. Schooling fish and big pelagic fish can often be found here, even big shoals of barracudas, tunas, snappers, trevallies…
Don’t forget to look down though, as on the bottom you can often see crocodile fish, stingrays, flying gurnards, mantis shrimps and many other surprising animals.
KICHAFI
Depth: 10 – 15m
A long stretch of healthy reef, home to big plate corals with lots of marine life.
At this reef there is a good chance to see green turtles.
There is also a large sandy area close to the site, which makes it a good training ground for courses.
HAJI
Depth: 10 – 18m
A big mountain of plate corals, surrounded by other bommies with soft and hard corals.
Lots of schooling fish can be seen at this place, such as yellow snapper.
Bottlenose dolphins have been seen many times at this site.
Have a closer look at the rocks to find the perfectly camouflaged stonefish, scorpion fish and potato groupers.
MBWANGAWA
Depth: 12 – 18m
A gentle slope with great diversity of corals. The ‘corner’ of the reef is home to some large plate corals, a truly beautiful sight.
Mbwangawa is also one of the places with the best possibility for encountering green turtles.
On the sand, have a look out for the wonderful guitarfish.

OUR team
Instructor of PADI and SSI.
I was born in Kenia, Diani Beach, next to the ocean, in March under the sign of Pisces. I believe that I was born for the ocean definitely. Diving has always been with me – my mom was working in dive center, my father was fishing. One day in 2015 I came to Zanzibar for the vacation and tried my first dive. And I felt in love with the ocean. I started to learn how to dive and in 2017 I’ve got my dive master certificate. I had an interesting experience – work as an assistant of instructor – and I understood that I want to teach people how to dive. I remember my first impression about diving – it was marvelous!
And I am happy to see the same on the faces of my guests. In 2022 I opened my own dive center and I am waiting for you here on Zanzibar to explore Indian ocean with us.
I moved to Zanzibar in 2018 and found myself loving the ocean, this made me land in to working in a dive center as a sales manager. I love my job so much because it makes me interact with different people from all over the world. As the manager I always make sure I give my clients the most useful and helpful information about the ocean on how to handle the corals, when to go diving, about the tides and Zanzibar at large. I have experience on guest relations and these have made me know how to handle every client. My main goal is to see my team mates and clients smile because this is my dive family.
